EET Graphic Organizers
The Expanding Expression Tool is a framework designed to assist students in organizing information to facilitate better descriptive and re-telling skills. This tool is frequently utilized during language sessions to promote increased vocabulary (describing) and as a graphic organizer to assist students in maintaining an orderly flow during writing assignments. It uses the following strategy for all:
- GREEN = Group (What group/category does the item or person belong to)
- BLUE= Do (What does the item or person do, or what is the function)
- LOOKS LIKE = (Describe the size, shape, color, texture, features)
- MADE OF = (Composition of the item, personality traits of a person)
- PINK = Parts (What are the individual parts of the item, story)
- WHITE = Where (Where would you find it, where did it happen/setting)
- ORANGE ? = (What else do I know, what is my opinion, what was the moral of the story)
For the Speech/Language Pathologist pushing into the classroom, this is an excellent tool! This allows you to address both verbal and written language skills such as:
- descibing / defining
- paraphrasing
- summarizing
- relating information in a logical sequence
- expanding vocabulary (revising written drafts)
- comparing/contrasting
- answering wh-questions
