 LINCS STRATEGY

Step 1: List the Parts

í List the word on the front of a study card.

í List the most important parts of the definition on the back of the study card.

 

Step 2: Identify a Reminding Word

í Think of a familiar word that sounds like the new word, or part of the new word.

í Write it under the new word.

 

Step 3: Note a LINCing Story

í Make up a short story about the meaning of the new word that includes the Reminding Word.

í Write it on the bottom left half of the back of the study card.

 

Step 4: Create a LINCing Picture

í Create an image in your mind of what the word is about.

í Draw the image on the bottom right half of the back of the study card.

 

Step 5: Self-test

1. Say the new word

2. Say the Reminding Word

3. Think of the LINCing Story.

4. Think of the LINCing Picture.

5. Say the meaning of the new word.

6. Check to see if you’re correct.
